If you are interested in doing a PhD in Finance, in order to work in a good academic or international institutions, you may consider applying for a M.Phil position at our Graduate School, the Tinbergen Institute (www.tinbergen.nl ), from where the Finance Group draws most of its incoming PhD students. Exceptionally, we consider external candidates.
Our research performance qualifies the Finance Group at the University of Amsterdam as one of the best Finance Departments in Europe.
- Our faculty members produce cutting edge research in a broad range of themes, linking finance to asset pricing, corporate finance and governance, political economy and financial development. We publish in leading academic journals in both economics and finance, with over 15 publications in AER, QJE and JPE as well as 15 publications in JF, JFE, RFS and JFQA in the last 12 years.
- The Business School of the University of Amsterdam is ranked by SSRN as the top business school outside the US in terms of number of research papers downloaded per author. The overwhelming majority of those downloads concern research papers provided by the finance group.
- The training at the Tinbergen Institute and other programs where we send our students provides them with cutting edge skills for exceptional research.
- Past students have been placed at leading Business Schools and International Institutions such as NYU Stern, Oxford, the World Bank and the IMF.
- We have one of the largest and most international Finance departments in Europe, with researchers from 14 countries
