UvA econometrician new member of The Young Academy

UvA econometrician Matthijs van Veelen is one of the new members of The Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). Together with nine other academics, he will join a select group of leading young scientists. The official induction of the new members will take place on 16 March at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences’ Trippenhuis.
Van Veelen studies the evolution of altruism and morality. His research deals with the concept of honesty and focuses on the question of why people do not always act out of self-interest, but are able to take into account the interests of others in their behaviour. In his research, Van Veelen used evolutionary game theory, a derivative of the classical game theory used in economic sciences.
