Jan G. de Gooijer elected Honorary Fellow of the International Institute of Forecasters

Jan G. de Gooijer, Professor of  Economic Statistics at UvA, has been elected as Honorary Fellow of the International Institute of Forecasters (IIF).
The Honorary Fellow citation reads: "For his outstanding research contributions, particularly in the area of time series forecasting; for his contributions to the International Journal of Forecasting, both as Editor-in-Chief, Editor and Associate Editor; for his services to the Institute".

For the past 30 years De Gooijer has been at the forefront in developing and unifying quantitative forecasting techniques as a multidisciplinary field of research. In particular, through Jan's editorial work for the Journal of Forecasting and the International Journal of Forecasting, the quality and usefulness of forecasting has been improved. Moreover, his many scientific publications, lectures, and workshops have helped to bridge the gap between theory and practice. 
Jan's current scientific interests focus on nonparametric conditional forecasting methods with applications to extreme-values prediction in financial time series.
