Lex Hoogduin appointed Executive Director of De Nederlandsche Bank

Professor Lex Hoogduin, part-time professor of Monetary Economics at the FEB will be returning to the De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), effective 1 January 2009. At the DNB, he will focus on economic policy and research, statistics and information, cash and payment systems, financial stability and financial markets.

Lex Hoogduin has worked as professor of Monetary Economy at the Faculty of Economics and Business since 2004 and will retain this position in addition to his work at the DNB. In the past, he held the position of director of the DNB Research division. From 1999 to 2001, he was assigned as an advisor to the president of the European Monetary Institute and the president of the European Central Bank, respectively. Since 2005, Lex Hoogduin was also Chief Economist at Robeco.

Hoogduin's research interests include the effects of insecurity and limited knowledge on economic decisions, where communication between participants in the economic process is an important aspect of this subject. On 10 October, he gave his analysis of the current credit crisis when he recently appeared as a guest speaker in the Room for Discussion.
